Select which shape best resembles your pool. Use the formula below to calculate the approximate square feet. Check the coverage of the product you select to determine how much paint you will need.
- Rectangle: Length x Width x 1.65 = Total Square Feet
- Roman: Length x Width x 1.5 = Total Square Feet
- Kidney: Length x Width x 1.65 = Total Square Feet
- Oval: Length x Width x 1.55 = Total Square Feet
- Lazy "L": Length x Width x 1.6 = Total Square Feet
Keeping your pool water chemistry in all the ideal ranges is recommended for balanced water. Specifically for painted pools, the Total Alkalinity should be a little higher than normal: in the range of 100 - 150 ppm. This helps prevent the paint from potentially rubbing off on hands and feet. The pH level for painted pools should also adhere to a consistent range of 7.4 - 7.6 and not go any lower, as that can potentially cause pool paint chalking or promote paint deterioration.
Strong shock treatments can also contribute to chalking of the pool paint. We recommend using non-chlorine oxidizing pool shock for maintenance. If a chlorine shock is needed, it's best to use a quicker dissolving shock such as sodium dichlor. Repeated shock treatments with a strong oxidizer, such as calcium hypochlorite, can lead to faster paint deterioration if added directly to the pool.
Epoxy pool paint is the best pool paint type to choose when painting fiberglass surfaces or a fiberglass pool. Epoxy-based pool paint is extremely durable, offering excellent stain, chemical and abrasion resistance.
After draining the pool, removing the deep end drain cover, and hydrostatic relief plugs, the 3-step process is: TSP Wash – Acid Wash – TSP Wash. The TSP removes grease and oils, and the Acid removes scale and helps roughen the surface. After the 3-step cleaning, the next part of pool prep is to allow the pool to dry fully, so you are not painting over any moisture in the surface.
