Placed the pump on my cover doesn't seem to keep up with moderate to high rain water pools and sags the cover.

Suitable if primed - must start without hose to break airlock; Not for long or tall hose runs;

For reference, I'm an engineer; I have over a dozen pumps for different uses. Many bladed (impeller) pumps, like the J-CPA450, must be started from a dry condition in 1 or more inches of water with no discharge line or a short and flat discharge line to eject air from the pump (primed). Otherwise, the air in the discharge line creates backpressure...Read More

(airlock) which prevents water from entering the pump. You also must consider the backpressure (‘drag’) of the discharge run (pipe, or hose) and cumulative rise. I suspect the J-CPA450 would fine in a low drag situation with no more than an 18” cumulative rise. I used the J-CPA450 in a 50-foot 3/4" hose run which had an initial 18" rise, then a short drop, and through a partially vertically coiled hose and got about 80 GPH. I’ve reserved the J-CPA450 for the vaulted pool cover (short and flat run) and am using a Little Giant APCP1700 for my heavier duty application. Also, small impellers require small discharge ports to maintain suction. Any debris in the water will collect in the impeller (between the blades) or worse – between the blades and the wall, both of which create friction and will burn out the motor. Read Less

Pump filter is flimsy

The filter on the underneath side is so thin it gets sucked into the intake opening and the pump stops pumping water. I finally moved the flimsy filter out of the way and wrapped the entire pump in screen mesh. It now has a good pumping flow of water. I would not recommend this pump.
